What is the fun list?

A list of activities geared toward promoting fellowship and just a great time between people of faith. Originally started out as an email list for people who wanted to stay in touch from an old small group and grew by leaps and bounds since. We have well over 200 people on the list. We are a very open group and are used to having new people join us. Living in a college town we see a lot of natural turn-over. If you are new, please know you will be welcome and we are looking forward to meeting you.

What kind of events do you have?

Activities vary from hiking, biking, guys/girls night out, Bible studies, volunteer opportunities, Catan, movies, dodgeball, poetry readings, cow tipping, to our ever popular Dinner Nights.  If you like food, drink, or some kind of good time there will eventually be something you will like on one of these emails.

How do I get on the email list or add a friend?

If you want to be added to the list or add a friend, send an email to me@jamesstogdill.com and request to be added to the Fun List...

I don't like Fun List stuff, get me off this list or complaints...

If you are not into fun list stuff send an email asking to be off the list.  If you have any complaints about this list, there is a form you can fill out located at the bottom of my Red Belly Piranha tank. Just stop by and I’ll point you in the right direction... I'm more than willing to listen to suggestions, but please voice them as a suggetions with possible alternatives. The list has well over 200+ people with a variety of backgrounds and standards. I try my best to find a common ground for all. The whole point is to bring community and fellowship to everyone attending.

I stopped getting Fun List... emails what happen?

I do not take people off the list unless their email bounced back to me. If you are not getting the messages and you want them please contact me and I'll fix it.

What about Facebook?

We do have a facebook site. We currently only use the Facebook site to send out invitations to large events and a place for people to post pictures. Facebook only members do not recieve announcements for all events like the email members. The group is open for anyone to join. If you are a Facebook only member and want to hear about all the events, request to be added to the email list.

Who is on the list?

Most of the people on the list are the in 20-30 something crowd. It is a good mix of married, married with kids, single, grad student, and undergrad. It is by no means limited to the 20-30 something age.
Several churches have members on the list and we will and have sent out announcemnets for them when requested. We would love to have serveral churches in the area involved...

How do I get my event on the list?

Send an email to James
me@jamesstogdill.com with details and ask him to send it to the Fun List. Otherwise I’m so arrogant, that I’ll think you are doing all of this just for me.  Don’t assume the details, let us know....  Do you need RSVP, start time, finish time, what to bring, directions, is there a limit on people, contact info...  Do you have rules??

Most outings get an average of 10-15 people.  Dinner Nights / Grill Outs get 60-80 people.

Adult Beverages?

If the “social” event is at a house or an apartment, people on this list will assume adult beverages are ok. If this is not the case let people know in the description. Most events follow our "no beer whining" rule. This means that if you would like to drink adult beverages you are bringing it. That way we will have enough and the type you like. So there will be no need for whining. It should go without saying, but just to make sure... NO ONE will drink in excess at Fun List... events. And NO ONE will be encouarged to drink.

Kid Friendly?

Almost all events on the Fun List... are kid friendly and encouraged. The few exceptions are Guys nights and Womens nights. Please contact the host if you have any questions. The description of the event will say of it is 18+ or over

How do I attend an event?

Just follow the directions given by the host.  Please be courteous to all host rules. Don’t bring your PBR to an nonalcoholic event (actually don’t bring your PBR to any event, we are high class drinkers...). Don’t hang out pass the finish time, don’t expect the host to lock up their 20 foot bald python because you are allergic to animals that may kill you...  Send an email or call the host if you have any concerns or questions prior to showing up.

If the event is strenuous like biking, hiking, cow tipping, or climbing... the host should let us know how long it should take, how far and how tough it will be.  Not everyone on the list thinks hiking in the North Carolina mountains is heaven on earth (I did let those people stay on the list).

If you want a group to go to a movie or a concert, let us know what kind of show to expect and cost. There are probably people on this list that have never heard of Over the Rhine.  There is actually one person on the list that thinks Hootie and the Blowfish suck (yes, I let her stay on the list too...). If you are attending a movie night, please research the movie prior to coming. Everyone has a different set of "appropriate standards". Don't show up without knowing what you are seeing and then complain to the host.

What this is NOT for?

For the sake of respecting everyone’s “issues” this is not a list for any political event, karaoke, or I need money (even for the greatest of causes).  I will send out emails looking for volunteers or donating used goods.  I had to draw the line somewhere and this is where I used my purple crayon that is a little dull because the sharpener on the box is broken...

One a final note...

And let be known that there is only ONE singer of Van Halen and his name is DAVID LEE ROTH...
